Earlier this month, the New York Post reported that the Bloomberg administration’s plan to install 20 public pay toilets across the five boroughs is gaining opposition. The first of these self-cleaning toilets was installed in 2008 in Madison Square Park, but the trend never picked up because people were just as happy to use free (albeit dirtier) restrooms in nearby restaurants and stores.
