Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday night on CNN that police should go on strike to pressure lawmakers to get guns off the streets. Such a move would be illegal (not to mention irresponsible), but it highlights the mayor’s frustration with the lack of progress he’s made on his initiative to curb guns in the United States. Despite the killing last week of 12 people in Colorado by a legally armed gunman—and the death Sunday of a 4 year old caught in the crossfire of a Bronx shootout—neither candidate for president has shown a willingness to tackle the issue.
